AzETA 9th International ELT Conference: Teaching Learning through Learning Teaching

AzETA held its next, 9th International ELT Conference: Teaching Learning Through Learning Teaching, on 22-24 June 2012 at Qafqaz Resort Hotel in Qebele, Azerbaijan.
The Conference brought together English teachers - AzETA members and non-members from different regions of Azerbaijan to share views and news, experiences, to develop further personally and professionally.
Plenary speakers of the Conference were:
- Prof. Dr. Birsen Tьtьnis, Head of Faculty of Education, ELT Department & Teacher Training and Research Center (TRC), İstanbul Aydin Üniversitesi, Turkey. The title of her plenary talk was: Resources for Teachers of English to Enable the Learners to Learn

- Damian Ross, British Council. The title of his plenary talk was: The CPD Framework: Taking Professional Development into Your Own Hands.

- Gerald McIntosh, Teacher Trainer/Business Development Manager, Wider Europe, British Council. The title of this plenary talk was: The Art of Observation.

- Dr Helen Emery, Department of Language and Linguistics, University of Essex, UK. The title of her plenary talk was: Teaching English to Young Learners in the 21st Century: Some issues and challenges.

- Prof. Péter Medgyes, Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest, Hungary. The title of his plenary talk was: "Laughing Matters".

There were also 14 sessions on different topics which the participants could attended during the conference. Alongside with presenters from different regions of Azerbaijan, there were presenters also from Turkey, Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, Hungary, UK, US.



In comparison with other AzETA international conferences, this conference was organised in the open air. AzETA has an experience in hosting its conferences in the open air. AzETA regional conferences are always organized in the open air. However, this was the first time that AzETA organized an open air international conference with overnight stay. As such, this was a new, challenging, as well as, exciting experience for AzETA.

Alongside with the professional opportunities, the Conference also created an opportunity for the participants to enjoy ancient town of Qebele. On Day 2 of the Conference, the participants visited Cuxur Qebele - a historic site where remnants of the 4th century city of Qebele, capital of the Caucasian Albania were found.

All the participants left the conference empowered personally and professionally, gaining new friends and with lots of fond memories.
